Assessments
Reasonable Adjustments and Additional Support
Everyone should have a fair chance to show what they know. If a disability, learning difficulty, medical condition or temporary injury affects how you sit an assessment, we will work with you on reasonable adjustments, privately and without fuss.
1. Who can ask
- 1.1Any candidate whose condition would put them at a substantial disadvantage compared with others, including long-term conditions (for example dyslexia, visual or hearing impairment, mobility or mental-health conditions) and short-term needs (for example an injury or acute illness).
- 1.2Each request is looked at individually. You do not need to use a particular label.
2. What we can arrange
- 2.1Extra time, supervised rest breaks, enlarged text or different colour contrast, a quiet or separate sitting, a reader, scribe or other assistive support for invigilated assessments, and adjustments to how and when you sit.
- 2.2We do not change what is being assessed (the learning outcomes or the standard). An adjustment may not be reasonable if it would compromise the security or integrity of the assessment or involve disproportionate cost or time. We will explain the reason if we cannot do exactly what you ask and will offer the nearest workable alternative.
3. How to ask
- 3.1Contact us before you sit, ideally at least five working days ahead, at coreknowledgedigital@gmail.com or through our support form. Say which assessment, what you find difficult and what would help.
- 3.2Where evidence is needed, send one recent professional letter or report (for example from a doctor, psychologist or specialist teacher) showing the condition, whether it is long or short term and the support recommended. PDF or photo, in English or with a translation. If you cannot get evidence, tell us and we will talk to you about what is practical.
- 3.3For sudden illness or injury, contact us as soon as you can, even on the day. We will do what we reasonably can.
4. Decisions and duration
- 4.1The Assessment Officer (George Mureithi, FCCA, FCPA, MBA, BSc (Hons)) decides requests. We reply within five working days and always give a reason. Approved adjustments for long-term conditions stay on your record for future assessments. Short-term adjustments apply for the period we state.
- 4.2If you disagree with a decision, you may ask for a review by a person who did not make it. Use the contact details above and write "Adjustment review"; we reply within ten working days.
5. Confidentiality
- 5.1Information about your health or disability is special personal information. We use it only to arrange your adjustment, share it only with the people who must know (for example your invigilator), do not put it in any report or email to employers, and keep it only as long as needed. See the Assessment Data and Confidentiality Notice and Accessibility Statement.
- 5.2Asking for support never affects how your result is described. Your certificate and results do not mention that an adjustment was used.
